COVID-19 Update

As this pandemic situation continues to unfold, we are finding most job sites are issuing zero-tolerance policies to workers who are showing symptoms of sickness, and will deny access for two weeks from any of their construction sites. Likewise, it is CMI's responsibility to adopt this stance in order to keep those who are still feeling healthy out of harm's way.

If you are feeling ill, or have been in close contact with anyone who is showing signs of sickness, notify any office staff, self isolate, and immediately file an EI claim. As previously mentioned, the usual waiting period when claiming EI has been waived and all claims will be processed immediately.

On the other hand, if you're not feeling sick, work will continue as usual on a site-by-site basis.

We appreciate your cooperation during this trying time and we'll continue to issue updates to this page as more information becomes available.

If you're concerned you might be infected with COVID-19, call the nurses hotline (Dial 8-1-1) for direction.

COVID-19

To our valued employees,

We find ourselves in a unique time. As people who are far smarter than us have classified British Columbia as low risk, work will continue as usual with heightened precautions taken wherever possible.

Unfortunately we are a production based industry and if there isn't work being done our contracts aren't being paid, and we can't pay our employees. We value the contributions of each of you in your efforts, however if you are sick please stay home.

If you need to stay home, the Liberal government has recently announced a change to the rules for Employment Insurance (EI) so that workers affected do not have to serve the waiting period to claim EI sick benefits.

We are trying to make sense of this scenario as it unfolds and we welcome your communications and inquiries. At the moment, there are a lot of misleading claims being made and it's important that we vet the information we're consuming and make sure it's from an official and reliable source.
